Greenbelt, Maryland – A former supervisory official with the U.S. Census Bureau has been sentenced for conspiring with a subcontractor to receive $790,000 in kickbacks. U.S. District Judge Lydia Kay Griggsby sentenced Camille Jones, 47, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, to two years in prison, followed by one year of supervised release, for conspiracy to commit bribery and honest-services fraud in connection with a procurement fraud scheme.
According to the press release, the charges against Jones stem from a scheme in which she conspired with a subcontractor to receive kickbacks in exchange for awarding the subcontractor's company a contract with the Census Bureau. The scheme resulted in the payment of $790,000 in kickbacks to Jones.
The charges against Jones include conspiracy to commit bribery and honest-services fraud, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 371, and bribery, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 201(b)(2)(A). Jones pleaded guilty to the charges on June 15, 2023.
