Carl R. Goodwin, Fentanyl Trafficking, New York 2025
BUFFALO, N.Y. - A Cheektowaga man has been taken off the streets after authorities discovered a significant stash of narcotics and firearms at his residence.
Carl R. Goodwin, 29, was arrested and charged by criminal complaint with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The charges carry a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison, a maximum of life, and a $1,000,000 fine.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt I. Kass, law enforcement began investigating Goodwin's drug trafficking activities in October 2025.
On December 18, 2025, Cheektowaga Police officers and the DEA executed a search warrant at Goodwin's Union Road residence, seizing approximately 576 grams of suspected fentanyl, approximately 1324 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine, 30 grams of suspected crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, two rifles, and cash.
Goodwin made an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy and was held pending a detention hearing.
The complaint is the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Frank Tarentino, New York Field Division, and the Cheektowaga Police Department, under the direction of Chief Brian Coons.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
Goodwin's case highlights the ongoing struggle against narcotics trafficking in Western New York.
