Carl William Morris, Armed Hobbs Act Robbery, Virginia 2019
A Winchester man was sentenced to 138 months in prison for his role in the armed robbery of Martin's Food Pharmacy in Winchester.
Carl William Morris, 44, pleaded guilty in August 2019 to one count of Armed, Hobbs Act Robbery and one count of discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
According to court documents, on January 18, 2019, Morris approached a pharmacy clerk at the cash register at Martin's Food on Gateway Drive in Winchester and demanded pain medication.
The clerk complied with Morris' demand and handed over multiple bottles of controlled substances, including Oxycontin valued at over $2,000.
Morris took four bottles of the medication and fled the store. A second pharmacy clerk followed Morris out of the store and into the parking lot, where he discharged his firearm in the clerk's direction.
Morris was subsequently tracked by a police canine officer and apprehended by law enforcement after fleeing into a nearby wooded area.
Morris was ordered to pay $14,000 in restitution as part of his sentence.
