Cecil Addison, Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, South Dakota 2025

A 27-year-old man from Eagle Butte, South Dakota, has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Cecil Addison was sentenced to two years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

On April 14, 2024, a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle in which Addison was a passenger. During a search of the vehicle, officers located a handgun with an extended magazine with Addison's name written in red letters on it.

Addison had two small baggies of marijuana and a methamphetamine pipe on his person when arrested. Addison is prohibited from possessing firearms due to his unlawful use of marijuana and methamphetamine.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.

Addison was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services.

The sentencing took place on October 8, 2025, in Pierre, South Dakota.
