Custodian Sentenced for Child Pornography
EUGENE, Ore. – In a shocking case of exploitation, Cecilio Galan, 45, of Metolius, Oregon, has been sentenced to 63 months in prison and 5 years of supervised release for possession and distribution of child pornography.
According to authorities, Galan possessed child pornography he located on the internet and made it available to others on a file-sharing site in the hopes of obtaining additional child pornography. This illicit activity occurred while he was serving as a custodian in a local school and after having served as a reserve police officer and a bus driver.
The investigation, led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, found no evidence of any inappropriate contact between Galan and the students at the school where he worked.
Galan’s case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Amy Potter. This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
As part of his sentence, Galan will serve 63 months in prison and 5 years of supervised release. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting our children from exploitation and abuse.
