Published August 28, 2023

A Fairmont man has admitted to federal charges related to heroin and fentanyl distribution in West Virginia.

Cedric Pierre Young, 32, pleaded guilty to distribution of heroin and fentanyl in proximity to a protected location, specifically near Fifth Street Park playground and the Marion County Adult and Community Education Center in Marion County.

A search of two properties connected to Young yielded hundreds of grams of fentanyl.

Young, also known as ‘Billy,’ faces at least one and up to 40 years in prison. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon Flower is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.

The Three Rivers Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, investigated the case.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Aloi presided over the proceedings.

Young’s actions will have a significant impact on the community, and it is essential to hold individuals accountable for their crimes.

The investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement to combating the opioid epidemic and keeping our communities safe.
