SCRANTON - In a shocking revelation, a local resident has been charged with distributing child pornography over the internet.
Cedrick Vaughn Perkins, age 20, of Orangeville, Pennsylvania, is facing serious allegations after a thorough investigation by Homeland Security Investigations.
According to U.S. Attorney Peter Smith, Perkins is charged with distributing child pornography over the internet between January and June 2015.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Government to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
The maximum penalty under federal law is 20 years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a $250,000 fine.
Perkins has agreed to plead guilty to the child pornography distribution charge, as outlined in a plea agreement filed in U.S. District Court in Scranton.
The plea agreement is subject to the approval of the court, and the case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Todd K. Hinkley.
