Cesar Rivera-Figueroa, Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine, New York 2017
Buffalo, NY - In a bold move, law enforcement officials have taken 11 defendants into custody for their alleged involvement in a massive cocaine trafficking operation in the Buffalo area.
According to the indictment, the defendants, including Cesar Rivera-Figueroa, aka Fat Boy, 26, conspired to possess and distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine between July 2017 and the present. The cocaine was trafficked from Puerto Rico and sold in the Buffalo area.
The indictment charges the defendants with conspiracy to distribute one kilogram or more of cocaine, which carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison, a maximum of life, and a $10,000,000 fine.
The 11 defendants, who were arraigned on October 3, 2017, are due back in court on that date at 1:30 p.m. A 12th defendant, Joseph Jones, aka Tio, 54, is still being sought by law enforcement officials.
The investigation, which was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Safe Streets Task Force, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Adam S. Cohen; the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Ashan Benedict, New York Field Division; the Buffalo Police Department, under the direction of Commissioner Daniel Derenda; and the New York State Police, under the direction of Major Edward Kennedy, resulted in the arrest of the 11 defendants.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The indictment is a significant blow to the cocaine trafficking operation, which was a major threat to the community. The investigation and arrests are a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement officials.
