Chae Lynn LeClaire, Assault, South Dakota 2019

Chae Lynn LeClaire, 27, has been accused of a violent assault in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, leaving an individual with serious bodily injury. On July 23, 2019, LeClaire allegedly used a chair to assault the victim, causing harm.

The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 10 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

LeClaire was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 10, 2019 and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on September 11, 2019, where she pled not guilty to the Indictment.

The investigation into the assault is being conducted by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Elmore is prosecuting the case.

LeClaire was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not been set.

The charges are merely accusations, and LeClaire is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
