Canton Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Fentanyl and Marijuana Crimes

A 26-year-old Canton man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a fentanyl and marijuana trafficking operation. Chance R. Young pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and marijuana and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

U.S. District Judge Patricia A. Gaughan handed down the sentence on Wednesday, May 25, 2022. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle M. Baeppler announced the sentencing.

According to court documents, Young was arrested on December 4, 2020, by law enforcement officers with the FBI and FBI Safe Streets Task Force on multiple outstanding warrants for kidnapping, aggravated robbery, and felonious assault issued by the Canton Municipal Court.

Following the arrest, authorities executed a search warrant at Young's known residence. During the search, authorities obtained a handgun with a loaded magazine and an attached weapon light, a rifle with a loaded magazine, several bags of marijuana, and quantities of fentanyl.

The case was investigated by the FBI, Canton Police Department, and FBI Safe Streets Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Damoun Delaviz prosecuted the case.

Young's 10-year sentence will be served in a federal prison. The exact location of the prison has not been released. This case serves as a reminder of the dangers of fentanyl and marijuana trafficking in our community.
