Charleston Woman Sentenced on Heroin Charges

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - In a shocking turn of events, a Charleston woman has been sentenced to 84 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute heroin.

Chandra Ross, 30, of Charleston, was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. The harsh sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston.

Ross pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute heroin in October 2013. She also pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of her drug trafficking in March 2014.

The case was investigated by the Kanawha Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Steve Loew was in charge of the prosecution.

Ross's guilty plea marks a significant blow to the heroin trade in Charleston. Heroin has become a major problem in the city, with many residents struggling with addiction.

The sentencing of Ross serves as a reminder that the authorities are serious about tackling the heroin epidemic in West Virginia.
