Charles B. King, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, New York 2020

Published September 10, 2020

Rochester resident Charles B. King, 36, has pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of ammunition, a charge that carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The plea, announced by U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr., was made before U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa on an unspecified date. King's guilty plea stems from an investigation by the Rochester Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

On August 25, 2019, police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at 1570 Clifford Avenue in Rochester. While searching the residence, officers discovered 26 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition in King's bedroom. Additionally, a 12-gauge shotgun was found in the basement.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Katelyn M. Hartford stated that King, with four prior felony convictions, is prohibited from possessing ammunition. The discovery of the ammunition and the shotgun led to King's arrest and subsequent charges.

The investigation was conducted by the Rochester Police Department, under the direction of Chief La'Ron Singletary, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge John B. Devito, New York Field Division.

Sentencing for King is scheduled for December 8, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. before Judge Siragusa. The outcome of the sentencing will determine the extent of King's punishment for his crime.
