A 10th Street Gang member has been handed a lengthy prison sentence for his involvement in a racketeering scheme.

Charles Watkins, 33, of Buffalo, was sentenced to 65 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara, marking a culmination of an investigation into the gang's activities.

Between 2000 and 2010, Watkins was a member of the 10th Street Gang, which sold marijuana, cocaine, crack cocaine, and other controlled substances on the West Side of Buffalo.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph M. Tripi stated that Watkins, along with other gang members and associates, were involved in the sale of illicit substances.

The sentencing is the result of a collaborative effort between Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New York State Police, the Buffalo Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Watkins was among 44 10th Street Gang members and associates charged and convicted in this case.

The defendant's involvement in the racketeering scheme has been brought to an end, with Watkins now facing a significant prison sentence.
