Charles Werenko, Possessing Firearm After Domestic Violence, Maine 2019
A Hudson man has been sentenced to time served and two years of supervised release for possessing a firearm after being convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
Bangor, Maine - Charles Werenko, 52, was sentenced in federal court in Bangor for the crime, U.S. Attorney Halsey B. Frank announced.
In 2015, Werenko was convicted of domestic violence assault in the Penobscot County Superior Court, and he knowingly possessed a .357 Magnum revolver from an unknown date until January 31, 2019.
Werenko was found guilty following a one-day bench trial on October 3, 2019, U.S. District Judge Lance E. Walker presiding over the case.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case.
As a result of his conviction, Werenko was sentenced to time served (2 ½ months) and two years of supervised release.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
