Cheri Jessica Cox, Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, Mississippi 2018

A Petal woman, Cheri Jessica Cox, 39, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for her role in a local methamphetamine ring. Cox was found guilty of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, a federal offense.

According to U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst and Special Agent in Charge Michelle A. Sutphin with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Mississippi, Cox was sentenced to 180 months in prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release and a $5,000 fine, for her crimes. This sentence is to run concurrently with the balance of her Forrest and Lamar County sentences.

The charges against Cox stem from her activities in Hattiesburg, Miss., where she sold methamphetamine on four separate occasions between September and November 2018. On December 7, 2018, Cox was arrested during a traffic stop by a Forrest County Sheriff’s Deputy and found in possession of 2 ounces of methamphetamine.

At sentencing, Cox was held responsible for 149.5 grams of methamphetamine. Cox was originally indicted on July 24, 2019 and pled guilty before Senior U.S. District Judge Keith Starrett on November 26, 2019.

The case was investigated by the 12th Circuit Court Narcotics Enforcement Team, the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Annette Williams prosecuted the case.
