Former Maryland Delegate Pleads Guilty to Bribery and Wire Fraud

Baltimore, Maryland - Former Maryland State Delegate Cheryl Diane Glenn, age 68, pleaded guilty today to federal honest services wire fraud and bribery charges.

Glenn, a resident of Baltimore, Maryland, admitted to accepting more than $33,000 in bribes in exchange for official actions related to legislation involving medical marijuana, opioid therapy clinics, and local business interests.

According to her plea agreement, Glenn defrauded the citizens of Maryland of the right to her honest services by soliciting and accepting bribes from an associate in exchange for voting in favor of several bills, including one that increased the number of medical marijuana grower and processing licenses available to an out-of-state company.

The guilty plea was announced by U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland Robert K. Hur and Special Agent in Charge Jennifer C. Boone of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Baltimore Field Office.

'As a public official, Cheryl Glenn's duty was to place the interests of the public above her own,' said U.S. Attorney Robert K. Hur. 'Instead, she accepted more than $33,000 in bribes in exchange for official actions.'

Glenn's plea agreement detailed several instances of bribery, including a meeting on March 5, 2018, where she agreed to use her position as a state legislator to vote for a bill that could favor an out-of-state company in its pursuit of a medical marijuana license, in exchange for $3,000 in cash.

As a result of her guilty plea, Glenn faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. Her sentencing is scheduled for a later date.
