Philadelphia Man Sentenced to Life for Armed Robbery and Murder
A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to life in prison for his role in a gas station robbery and murder. Chihean Jones, 41, was found guilty of two counts of robbery interfering with interstate commerce, murder in the course of using and carrying a firearm, and using and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
The crimes occurred on August 22, 2022, and January 17, 2023, when Jones and his accomplices robbed a cell phone store and a gas station in Philadelphia. During the gas station robbery, Jones shot and killed an unarmed attendant in the back.
U.S. Attorney David Metcalf said, 'The defendant shot an unarmed man in the back because it was easier than chasing after him. He and his crew then pawed through the victim's pockets, as he lay dying. In the face of such senseless violence and casual cruelty, this life sentence is richly deserved.'
Eric DeGree, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF's Philadelphia Field Division, added, 'Chihean Jones committed a horrific and cowardly act when he shot and killed an innocent victim simply trying to make a living.'
Jones was sentenced by United States District Judge Kelley Brisbon Hodge to life in prison for the murder and 20 years each for the robberies, to be served concurrently. The investigation was conducted by the Philadelphia Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Christopher Parisi and Amanda McCool.
The crimes were committed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on January 17, 2023, and August 22, 2022. The exact dates of arrest and sentencing were not provided.
