20-Year Sentence for Storm Lake Methamphetamine Trafficker
Christian Javier Ramirez, 31, of Storm Lake, Iowa, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation that spanned from Mexico to Iowa.
On July 13, 2021, United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand handed down the 240-month prison term to Ramirez, who had previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
According to the complaint filed in this matter, Ramirez conspired with others to import approximately 7 pounds of methamphetamine from Mexico and distribute it in the Storm Lake area. The methamphetamine was intercepted in Colorado by the Colorado State Patrol and was destined for Storm Lake at the direction of Ramirez.
During the course of the conspiracy, Ramirez also possessed firearms, which is a serious offense in itself. His sentencing is a significant blow to the methamphetamine trafficking operation, which had been plaguing the Storm Lake community.
Ramirez will serve a 5-year term of supervised release after completing his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system, so he will serve the full 20 years without the possibility of early release.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ron Timmons and investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office, and Colorado State Patrol.
