Christopher D. Rarick Charged with Possession of Contraband in Pennsylvania

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – A shocking indictment was revealed today, charging a federal inmate with possession of a prohibited object in prison.

Christopher D. Rarick, 37, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Johnstown on a charge of possession of a prohibited object in prison, Acting United States Attorney Soo C. Song announced today.

According to the indictment presented to the court, on February 16, 2017, Rarick possessed a quantity of Buprenorphine.

The indictment named Rarick, a resident of the Federal Correctional Institution in Loretto, Pa. The investigation, led by the Laurel Highlands Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Federal Correctional Institution, Special Investigative Staff, has shed light on the severity of the crime.

The law provides for a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history of the defendant.

Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie L. Haines is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
