Christopher J. Keeble, Domestic Violence Assault, South Dakota 2021
A Sisseton, South Dakota man was sentenced to 85 months in federal prison for his role in a brutal domestic violence assault.
Christopher J. Keeble, 33, was found guilty of assault of an intimate and dating partner by strangling, suffocating, or attempting to strangle or suffocate, a federal crime.
The assault occurred on May 21, 2021, at the victim's home in Sisseton, South Dakota. Keeble, who was not invited to the residence, arrived unannounced and asked the victim to step outside alone. Once outside, Keeble threatened the victim with harm if she screamed or yelled.
Despite the victim's compliance, Keeble proceeded to choke her until she was on the verge of losing consciousness and punched her in the face. The assault left the victim with bodily injuries.
Not only was Keeble's conduct unprovoked, but it also violated a tribal court order of protections involving the same victim.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Sioux Tribe's Law Enforcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy R. Jehangiri prosecuted the case.
Keeble was immediately returned to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to serve his 85-month sentence. He will also be subject to three years of supervised release and will be required to pay $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
This case highlights the severity of domestic violence and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
