Child pornography has plagued our communities for far too long. In a recent case, a New York man has been brought to justice for his heinous crimes.
Christopher Stickles, a 35-year-old man from Copake, New York, has been sentenced to 85 months in prison for receiving and possessing child pornography. This shocking sentence comes after Stickles admitted to accessing the internet to visit file-sharing sites and websites that contained child pornography between January 2021 and August 2022. During this time, he downloaded numerous still image and video files that contained child pornography.
The case against Stickles was investigated by the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force, which includes Special Agents of the FBI, and state and local police investigators, including from the New York State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rick Belliss prosecuted the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a program launched in May 2006 to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet.
As part of his sentence, Stickles will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison. He will also be subject to a 15-year term of supervised release, to begin after he serves his term of imprisonment. In addition, Stickles will be required to pay a total of $6,000 in restitution to two victims of the offenses of conviction.
The people of New York demand justice for the victims of child pornography. This sentence sends a strong message that such crimes will not be tolerated in our state.
