A lurid tale of attempted child enticement has come to light in Ocala, Florida. Clayton Lee Harris, a 22-year-old man from Ocklawaha, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for attempting to lure a minor into a sexual encounter.
According to court records, Harris made contact with an undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old girl on an online dating website. Despite learning the minor’s age, he continued to pursue a meeting for a sexual encounter.
When Harris arrived at the predetermined location, law enforcement apprehended him. His arrest marks a significant victory in the fight against child predators.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Hannah Nowalk Watson prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children and rescue victims.
Clayton Lee Harris’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of targeting minors. The community can rest a little easier knowing that a predator is behind bars.
As we continue to report on cases like Harris’s, it’s essential to acknowledge the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe.
