Clayton M. High Wolf, 53, Sentenced for Possessing Firearm by a Prohibited Person in Rapid City
In a harsh verdict, Clayton M. High Wolf has been handed a 92-month prison term for knowingly possessing a Smith & Wesson .22 caliber pistol and Remington .22 caliber ammunition on July 17, 2014. High Wolf was under the watchful eye of Rapid City police officers when the firearm and ammunition were discovered.
The conviction of High Wolf stems from his prior felony convictions of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance in 1996 and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance in 2008. These convictions prohibited High Wolf from owning firearms or ammunition.
High Wolf's case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and the Rapid City Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman was tasked with prosecuting the case.
High Wolf was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service after the sentencing on April 15, 2016.
As part of his sentence, High Wolf was ordered to serve 3 years of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
