Erie Man to Serve 8 Years in Prison for Receiving Child Sex Abuse Materials

Erie, PA - In a shocking turn of events, 34-year-old Cody A. Neely has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for receiving child sex abuse materials, announced United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung today.

United States District Judge Stephanie L. Haines imposed the sentence on Neely, who was found guilty of violating federal laws relating to the sexual exploitation of children. According to information presented to the court, Neely received computer images and movies depicting prepubescent minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct between May 2019 and October 2019.

A forensic examination of Neely’s digital devices revealed thousands of items of child sexual abuse material. This disturbing revelation sparked an investigation led by Homeland Security Investigations, which ultimately led to Neely's successful prosecution.

United States Attorney Chung commended the Homeland Security Investigations for their tireless efforts in bringing Neely to justice. Assistant United States Attorney Christian A. Trabold prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.

As part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006, the government aims to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of this initiative and the need for continued vigilance in protecting our children.
