Cordell McDowell, Escape, Iowa 2021

A Davenport man has been sentenced to two years in prison for a brazen escape, announced Acting United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal on March 17, 2021.

Cordell McDowell, 32, was handed the sentence by United States District Court Chief Judge John A. Jarvey, who also ordered McDowell to serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.

The escape charge arose in 2020 after McDowell failed to report to a residential reentry center in Davenport to serve the remainder of his prison sentence.

McDowell's whereabouts were unknown for approximately four months until he was arrested in relation to his involvement in a murder/robbery investigation.

This matter was investigated by the United States Marshals Service. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Iowa.

McDowell has a history of non-compliance with supervision and a prior federal conviction for escape.

As part of his sentence, McDowell was ordered to pay $100 to the Crime Victims' Fund.

The crime was committed in Davenport, Iowa, a city in the northeastern part of the state.
