Cordero Moore, Knife Attack on Postal Carrier, Mississippi 2024

GREENWOOD, MISSISSIPPI – In a shocking display of violence, 36-year-old Cordero Moore of Greenwood, Mississippi was sentenced to 70 months in prison for chasing down and attacking a U.S. Postal Carrier with a knife on August 5, 2024.

The victim, a dedicated letter carrier, was simply doing her job when Moore ambushed her, forcing her to enter a local business for her safety. Moore was later apprehended in possession of two knives, further highlighting the severity of the crime.

U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner expressed his outrage at the incident, stating that it is 'ludicrous' that postal employees should have to fear for their lives while performing their duties. He praised the collaboration of law enforcement partners in bringing the perpetrator to justice.

The safety and security of Postal Service employees is a top priority for the Postal Inspection Service, according to Acting Inspector-in-Charge Shameka Jackson. She commended the Greenwood Police Department for their assistance in the investigation and the Judge's decision to take the threat of physical violence against postal workers seriously.

The case was investigated by the Greenwood Police Department and U.S. Postal Inspector Charlie Tutor. AUSA Paul Roberts prosecuted the case.

In addition to the 70-month prison sentence, Moore will also serve three years of post-incarceration court supervision.
