Cory Jean Gainey Sentenced to 10 Months for Unlawful Purchase of Firearm

In a shocking turn of events, Cory Jean Gainey, a 24-year-old from Reedsville, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 10 months in prison for making a false statement during the purchase of a firearm.

According to authorities, Gainey pleaded guilty to one count of 'False Statement During the Purchase of a Firearm' in January 2017. The crime took place in October 2015, when Gainey provided false information to a licensed firearms dealer, claiming to be the actual purchaser of the firearm when, in fact, he was buying it for another individual.

U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided over the case, handing down the sentence of 10 months' incarceration.

Gainey's sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences of violating federal firearms laws. The case serves as a warning to those who would attempt to deceive authorities and skirt the law.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Monongalia County Sheriff's Office, and the Morgantown Police Department are to be commended for their tireless efforts in bringing Gainey to justice.

In a statement, Acting United States Attorney Betsy Steinfeld Jividen praised the work of the investigators and prosecutors involved in the case, stating that their dedication to upholding the law is crucial in maintaining public safety.
