Published November 4, 2024

Two Romanian nationals have been charged with violating US immigration laws.

A federal indictment unsealed in New Orleans, Louisiana, alleges that COSTEL ALIMAN and SABINA MUNTEANU re-entered the United States illegally after being previously deported.

ALIMAN re-entered the US on an unknown date after being deported on January 9, 2019, while MUNTEANU re-entered the US illegally after being deported on October 4, 2017.

According to the indictment, ALIMAN faces up to 2 years imprisonment, up to 1 year of supervised release, up to a $250,000 fine, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee if convicted.

MUNTEANU also faces the same charges and penalties if convicted.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of United States Homeland Security Investigations, Enforcement and Removal Operations in investigating this matter.

Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell of the General Crimes Unit is in charge of the prosecution.
