Pair Caught with Large Amount of Methamphetamine in Bristol, Virginia

A man and woman, who were caught with a large amount of methamphetamine in an outbuilding in Bristol, Virginia by the Virginia State Police and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, were sentenced this week on federal drug charges.

Crystal Younce Sentenced to 130 Months in Federal Prison

Crystal Younce, 42, was sentenced Tuesday to 130 months in federal prison for her role in the methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Donald Smith Sentenced to 120 Months in Federal Prison

Donald Smith, 51, was sentenced Wednesday to 120 months in federal prison for his part in the methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Both Younce and Smith pleaded guilty in August 2022 to one count of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute and distribution of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.

Law Enforcement Seized Over $8,000 in Cash and Nearly 300 Grams of Methamphetamine

According to court documents, on September 23, 2021, law enforcement officers from the Virginia State Police and Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrived at Smith’s home to execute a state warrant and discovered Smith and Younce in an outdoor shed on the property with various plastic bags containing substances the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) lab later identified as 99–100% pure methamphetamine. Altogether, Smith and Younce had nearly 300 grams of methamphetamine along with packaging materials, a digital scale, and multiple other controlled substances. In addition, law enforcement seized over $8,000 in cash.

Law enforcement also recovered text messages from both Younce and Smith, including one message where Younce referred to herself as a “one-stop shop” for narcotics.

The Virginia State Police, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Drug Enforcement Administration investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Whit D. Pierce and Lena L. Busscher prosecuted the case.

United States Attorney Christopher R. Kavanaugh of the Western District of Virginia made the announcement. The case demonstrates the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat methamphetamine trafficking in the region.
