SiouxFalls Man Sentenced to Over 2 Years in Federal Prison
A Sioux Falls, South Dakota man has been sentenced to two years and nine months in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a felon.
Dallas Joseph Bluebird, III, 21, was sentenced on April 6, 2026 by Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange, U.S. District Court.
Bluebird was convicted of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person after investigators identified him as one of the shooters in a June 30, 2024 exchange of gunfire outside a Sioux Falls convenience store.
Despite numerous shots being fired, no one was hit by the gunfire. Both subjects fled from the scene prior to police arrival, but investigators were able to identify Bluebird as one of the shooters based on DNA recovered from the firearm, which was left at the scene.
Bluebird is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a 2023 conviction for Second Degree Escape.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the government to protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Sioux Falls Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Joyce prosecuted the case.
Bluebird was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
As part of his sentence, Bluebird will also serve three years of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
