Defendant Handed 5 Years and 8 Months for Cocaine and Gun Offenses
A Hampton man was sentenced to 5 years and 8 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Damion Chesson, 29, was handed down the sentence by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth W. Hanes.
The sentence comes after a traffic stop on September 4, 2025, during which Chesson provided a false name and social security number. A K9 unit alerted officers to narcotics inside the vehicle, leading to the discovery of a loaded handgun, digital scale, and narcotics packaging material.
Upon a search of Chesson, officers recovered $1,135.03 from his left front pocket and 25.54 grams of cocaine from his right front pocket. This is not the first time Chesson has been arrested for drug-related offenses, as he was also found with 15.76 grams of cocaine and a loaded handgun at the time of his arrest on January 2.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating violent crime and the perpetrators of such crimes.
The Virginia State Police and Hampton Police Division assisted in the investigation, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter G. Osyf.
