Damion Hardy, Murder in Aid of Racketeering, New York 2015
Damion Hardy, also known as 'World,' and Aaron Granton, also known as 'E-Bay,' were each sentenced to six terms of life imprisonment for their roles in the 'Cash Money Brothers' gang in Brooklyn, New York.
The sentencing, which was imposed by United States District Judge Frederic Block, comes after the pair's conviction in April 2015 on charges of murder in aid of racketeering and related offenses.
Hardy, 40, of Brooklyn, was the leader of the 'Cash Money Brothers' gang, while Granton, 40, of Brooklyn, was one of its top enforcers.
From 1991 until August 2004, Hardy led the gang, which controlled the Lafayette Gardens houses in Brooklyn and maintained control through acts of violence that included near-daily gun battles with rival organizations and numerous murders.
The government's case was prosecuted jointly by the Office's International Narcotics & Money Laundering Section and Organized Crime & Gangs Section, with Assistant United States Attorneys Matthew Amatruda, Soumya Dayananda, and Rena T. Paul handling the prosecution.
The case marks a significant victory in the fight against gang violence and organized crime in New York City.
'Gang members and would-be gang members are on notice that we will never cease in our efforts to bring murderous criminals to justice and to make communities like Lafayette Gardens safe for its law-abiding residents,' stated Acting United States Attorney Kelly T. Currie.
The 'Cash Money Brothers' gang was responsible for a number of brutal murders, including the killing of Michael Colon in 1998 and the murder of Ivery 'Peanut' Davis in 1999.
Davis's killing also resulted in the death of an innocent bystander, Johan Camitz.
The defendants are currently serving their sentences at a federal correctional institution.
