Dana Whidbee, Identity Theft, Massachusetts 2017

A South Boston woman has been arrested and charged with identity theft after using false Social Security numbers to apply for a job and housing. 

The incident occurred in September 2013 and May 2014, when Dana Whidbee, a/k/a Dana De Alasei, used two false social security numbers to apply for a job and housing respectively.

Whidbee was indicted in March 2017 and later pleaded guilty in federal court in Boston to two counts of falsely representing a Social Security number.

According to the indictment, Whidbee used the false Social Security numbers to apply for a job in September 2013 and housing in May 2014.

The charge of falsely representing a Social Security number provides for a sentence of no greater than five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000 or twice the gross gain or loss, whichever is greater.

Whidbee is scheduled to be sentenced on June 22, 2017, by U.S. District Court Judge Rya W. Zobel.

Acting United States Attorney William D. Weinreb, Scott Antolik, Special Agent in Charge of the Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General, Office of Investigations, Boston Field Division, Matthew Etre, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Boston, and David W. Hall, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic Security, Boston Field Office, made the announcement today.

Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Karen Burzycki of Weinreb’s Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.
