A shocking case of child exploitation has come to light in the North of Indiana, as Daniel Labuda, 39, of St. John, was sentenced to 60 months imprisonment for receiving child pornography, announced U.S. Attorney Thomas L. Kirsch II.

The defendant's guilty plea came in response to allegations that between November 2012 and January 2013, Labuda downloaded and received child pornography from various foreign websites. The sheer scale of his criminal activity is alarming, with over 390,000 still images and over 1,900 videos of child pornography uncovered by investigators.

These disturbing files included numerous visual depictions of prepubescent minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct and child pornography depicting torture and violence against children. Labuda attempted to conceal his crimes by using anonymizing software and encryption.

The FBI led the investigation into Labuda's crimes, with the assistance of the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section Trial Attorney Leslie Fisher and Assistant U. S. Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana Abizer Zanzi.

In addition to his prison sentence, Labuda has been ordered to serve five years supervised release and pay $48,000 in restitution. The severity of this case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of protecting our children from online predators and the consequences of those who engage in such heinous activities.
