Grimy Times Exclusive: Methamphetamine Trafficker Sentenced to 21.5 Years in Prison

Daniel LeBron, a 47-year-old resident of Cross City, Florida, has been sentenced to 21 and a half years in federal prison for his involvement in a massive methamphetamine trafficking operation. LeBron pleaded guilty to charges of possession with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine, possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking, and possession of firearms and ammunition by a convicted felon.

The sentencing took place on October 26, 2020, after LeBron was arrested on April 24, 2019, by deputies from the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) during a traffic stop. Agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) subsequently executed a federal search warrant at LeBron's residence, where they discovered two firearms, an AR-15 and a loaded .22 caliber rifle, in addition to 9 ounces of methamphetamine, pills, and over $10,000 in cash.

Further investigation revealed that LeBron was involved in a large-scale conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in the Dixie County area, with agents estimating that he trafficked over 7 kilograms of the substance to individuals in the area.

LeBron's sentencing is a result of the collaborative work of the DEA, the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Chris Elsey.

LeBron will serve 16 and a half years on the methamphetamine charge, followed by 5 years on the firearm in furtherance charge. The Court also ordered 10 years of supervised release following LeBron’s prison term. As a convicted felon with prior convictions for 2nd Degree Murder and Escape, LeBron’s sentence reflects the severity of his crimes.

This sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the devastating effects of methamphetamine trafficking in our communities. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Florida will continue to work tirelessly with law enforcement partners to pursue, prosecute, and punish those who engage in this destructive behavior.
