A Springfield man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing child pornography.
Daniel Lorenz, 45, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for one count of possession of material involving the sexual exploitation of minors. The crime dates back to March 13, 2014, when federal agents executed a search warrant at Lorenz’s Springfield residence and found 800 videos of child pornography.
The disturbing footage included many images depicting the rape, bondage, and sexual torture of girls as young as three years old. Lorenz had told agents at the time of the search that he had a large quantity of child pornography on his computer, including image and video files, most of which depicted girls between the ages of eight and fourteen.
Lorenz admitted to collecting child pornography for at least three or four years and distributing or receiving child pornography three times per week using e-mail accounts. He also created and utilized multiple social media accounts, including various Facebook and Google+ profiles in the name and image of a minor female, in order to make contact with girls to obtain child pornography and to engage in sexually explicit conversations.
According to Judge William G. Young, Lorenz was actively trying to turn his fantasy into reality. The judge stated that the defendant’s misconduct ‘reveals to the Court a most dangerous situation.’
United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and Harold H. Shaw, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division, made the announcement today. Assistance was also provided by the Springfield Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven H. Breslow of Ortiz’s Springfield Branch Office.
Lorenz’s 10-year sentence is a significant blow to those who prey on the most vulnerable members of our society. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of continued efforts to combat child exploitation and hold perpetrators accountable for their crimes.
The Springfield man will spend the next decade behind bars for his heinous crimes. His sentence is a testament to the tireless work of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors who are dedicated to protecting our children from those who would harm them.
