Daniel M. Harbison, Felon Impersonating Federal Agent, Georgia 2015

Published May 1, 2015

A 40-year-old man from Dunwoody, Georgia, has been arraigned on federal charges of impersonating a DEA agent while armed with a gun.

Daniel M. Harbison allegedly conducted a traffic stop of an off-duty Doraville police officer by activating light-emitting diode (LED) lights on his vehicle, wearing a T-shirt printed with the letters 'DEA,' and carrying a .45 caliber handgun in a thigh holster.

The incident occurred on April 3, 2015, in Doraville, Georgia.

Harbison claimed to be a federal officer when questioned by the off-duty police officer, who then asked for verification of his law enforcement credentials.

According to court documents, Harbison returned to his car and fled the scene after being confronted by the off-duty officer.

A grand jury charged Harbison with being a felon in possession of a firearm on April 23, 2015.

As a previously convicted felon, Harbison was barred from possessing a firearm.

Members of the public are reminded that the indictment only contains charges, and Harbison is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Doraville Police, and DEA investigated the case, which led to Harbison's arrest and the recovery of several items, including a handgun, DEA T-shirt, LED lights, an identification card, and a badge.
