Daniel Robert, Attempted Witness Tampering, Mississippi 2022
Attempted Witness Tampering Lands Meridian Man Behind Bars
A federal jury has found Daniel Robert guilty of two counts of Attempted Witness Tampering in a case that spans multiple states.
According to the investigation, Robert made numerous phone calls to his family members in June 2018, directing them to avoid subpoenas, testify that they couldn't remember facts of the case, or simply refuse to testify. He even went so far as to request the preparation of a false affidavit.
This isn't Robert's first run-in with the law. In January 2020, he was convicted of narcotics trafficking charges following a three-day trial. He is currently serving a sentence of 330 months in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons for those convictions.
Robert's latest conviction comes with a maximum sentence of 20 years and a $250,000 fine for each count. Those sentences will be imposed in addition to the sentence he received for his narcotics trafficking crimes.
U.S. Attorney Darren J. LaMarca and Special Agent in Charge Jermicha Fomby of the Federal Bureau of Investigation made the announcement. The FBI investigated the case, with Criminal Chief Erin O. Chalk and Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles W. Kirkham prosecuting the case.
Robert is scheduled to be sentenced on November 3, 2022, by U.S. District Judge Kristi H. Johnson.
