Daniel Tyce, Felon in Possession of Firearms, Maine 2020
BANGOR, Maine - A Houlton man pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of firearms, making him a menace to the community.
Daniel Tyce, 40, admitted to being a felon and that he was in possession of firearms, putting innocent lives at risk.
According to court records, in September 2020, the Maine Warden Service and Houlton Police executed a search warrant at Tyce's residence. During the search, law enforcement seized a shotgun and ammunition from inside the house. They also seized a shotgun, a receiver completed into a pistol with stabilizing brace, and various rounds of ammunition and magazines from a truck Tyce used.
Tyce is prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior felony convictions in New Jersey. His actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the law and a willingness to put himself and others in harm's way.
The Maine Warden Service, Houlton Police, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case. Tyce faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. He also faces up to three years of supervised release.
A federal district judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. The court's decision will be a crucial step in holding Tyce accountable for his actions.
Daniel Tyce's guilty plea serves as a reminder that the consequences of breaking the law can be severe. His case highlights the importance of strict gun control laws and the need for law enforcement to take a tough stance against those who would seek to exploit loopholes in the system.
It remains to be seen how the court will ultimately decide on Tyce's sentence, but one thing is certain: his actions have put him at risk of serious punishment, and the community is safer as a result.
