Danika Nurea Sanchez, Meth Trafficking, Montana 2024

Published August 23, 2019

BILLINGS, Montana - In a blow to the methamphetamine trade, a 21-year-old Lame Deer woman was sentenced to three years in prison and five years of supervised release for conviction on methamphetamine trafficking charges, U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme said.

Danika Nurea Sanchez, 21, pleaded guilty in March to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

On July 11, 2018, an undercover agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration bought about a quarter of a pound of meth from Sanchez in Billings. A quarter pound of meth is the equivalent of about 906 doses, the prosecution said in court documents filed in the case.

U.S. District Judge Susan P. Watters presided over the sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Colin Rubich prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the DEA.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which is the centerpiece of the federal government's violent crime reduction efforts. PSN is an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.

PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime. Sanchez's conviction and sentencing are a testament to the effectiveness of this program.

Sanchez's crime and sentence are a stark reminder of the devastating impact of methamphetamine trafficking on communities. We will continue to work tirelessly to dismantle the networks that bring this poison to our streets.
