A brazen robbery shook the streets of Ashland, Kentucky, on April 5, 2019, when a suspect stormed the Bluegrass Community Federal Credit Union, making off with a substantial sum of money.
The suspect, identified as Danny P. Chaffin, 37, of Boyd County, Kentucky, allegedly took over $12,000 from the credit union, a federally insured financial institution.
On Thursday, a grand jury in Lexington returned a single-count indictment charging Chaffin with violating 18 U.S.C. § 2113(a), the federal bank robbery statute.
According to the indictment, Chaffin faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. However, any sentence following a conviction would be imposed by the Court, after its consideration of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and the federal sentencing statutes.
Chaffin's indictment came after an investigation by the Ashland Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. A date for Chaffin to appear in federal court has not yet been scheduled.
