Danyer Moya-Gonzalez, Heroin Trafficking, Connecticut 2019
In a major blow to Hartford's heroin trade, 30-year-old Danyer Moya-Gonzalez was sentenced to 66 months in federal prison for his role in a large-scale heroin trafficking organization.
According to court documents, Moya-Gonzalez was a key player in a heroin trafficking ring that operated in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, and the Dominican Republic. The investigation, led by the DEA's Hartford Task Force, revealed that Moya-Gonzalez and his co-conspirators distributed heroin from his store, Katty Grocery, located at 584 Franklin Avenue in Hartford.
Between September and December 2016, investigators made multiple controlled purchases of heroin from Franklyn Caraballo-Almonte, a co-conspirator who worked at Katty Grocery. After arranging the sale, Caraballo-Almonte would travel to Moya-Gonzalez's residence to pick up the narcotics, or Moya-Gonzalez would deliver the drugs to the Katty Grocery.
Moya-Gonzalez was arrested on April 13, 2017. Three days later, a grand jury returned an indictment charging Moya-Gonzalez, Caraballo-Almonte, and eight other individuals with various heroin trafficking offenses.
On March 13, 2019, Moya-Gonzalez pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute heroin, and four counts of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, heroin.
Moya-Gonzalez, a citizen of the Dominican Republic, is set to serve his 66-month prison term. After completing his sentence, he will face deportation proceedings.
The DEA's Hartford Task Force, comprised of personnel from the DEA Hartford Resident Office and local police departments, played a crucial role in dismantling the heroin trafficking organization.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Geoffrey M. Stone.
