Dario Bier Romero, Fentanyl Trafficking, Massachusetts 2018
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - A shocking case of fentanyl trafficking has come to light in the city of Providence, Rhode Island. According to recent developments, Dario Bier Romero, 28, has pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, as well as possession with intent to distribute and distribution of 40 grams or more of fentanyl and 400 grams or more of fentanyl.
The fentanyl trafficking charges against Romero stem from a June 2018 investigation in which federal authorities seized approximately three kilograms of fentanyl and an additional kilogram from his residence in Providence. The seized evidence, including drug packaging paraphernalia, further solidified the case against Romero and his co-defendant, Gerson Franco Guerrero.
Co-defendant Guerrero has already pleaded guilty and is scheduled to be sentenced today. Romero, however, still faces the music for his involvement in the massive fentanyl trafficking operation.
The charges of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl carry a minimum sentence of 10 years and up to life in prison. Additionally, Romero may face up to a lifetime of supervised release and fines totaling up to $10 million.
United States Attorney Andrew Lelling and Brian D. Boyle, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration's New England Division, made the announcement of Romero's guilty plea. The investigation, which involved assistance from the Massachusetts State Police and Woburn and Providence Police Departments, has shed light on the dark world of fentanyl trafficking.
Dario Bier Romero's plea deal marks a significant milestone in the ongoing battle against fentanyl trafficking in the United States. As authorities continue to crack down on illicit operations, the public must remain vigilant in reporting suspicious activity and seeking help for those struggling with addiction.
As the case against Romero unfolds, it serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of fentanyl trafficking and the importance of proactive efforts to prevent such crimes.
