Darius Morningstar Speedis, Sexual Abuse, Washington 2025
A 20-year-old man from the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation has been sentenced to 72 months in federal prison for sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl who had become intoxicated and incapacitated.
Darius Morningstar Speedis, 20, of the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation, was sentenced on April 14, 2025, by United States District Judge Mary K. Dimke for Sexual Abuse in Indian Country.
The crime occurred in early November 2022, when Speedis and several other teenagers, including the victim, consumed alcohol on the Yakama Nation. The victim had become incapacitated, and Speedis sexually assaulted her.
Speedis had recorded the assault and sent a video of it to the victim. However, the video was later deleted and not recovered by law enforcement.
At sentencing, Judge Dimke noted the abuse of trust involved in the sexual assault, including the recording of the assault, as well as Speedis' age and reported remorse.
“Sexual violence has no place in any community, and it is especially devastating when it targets vulnerable victims and occurs within communities already impacted by an epidemic of abuse,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Richard R. Barker.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Yakama Nation Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Letitia A. Sikes.
