Published May 1, 2023

FLORENCE, SOUTH CAROLINA - A Hartsville man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Darnikius Trayvon Sutton, 31, was sentenced to 120 months in prison, to be followed by a 5-year term of court-ordered supervision after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

According to evidence presented to the court, in August 2022, the Darlington County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at a Hartsville home from which Sutton had previously sold methamphetamine.

Inside the home, law enforcement found approximately 58 grams of methamphetamine, quantities of cocaine and crack cocaine, three firearms, and more than 100 rounds of ammunition.

Sutton claimed responsibility for everything in the home.

Chief United States District Judge R. Bryan Harwell handed down the sentence.

This case was prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, the centerpiece of the government's violent crime reduction efforts.

The PSN program is an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.

This case was investigated by Hartsville Police Department, Darlington County Sheriff's Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant U.S. Attorney Katherine Flynn prosecuted the case.
