Jacksonville, Florida Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Armed Drug Dealing

A 26-year-old Satsuma man was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for possessing Molly, a Schedule I controlled substance, with the intent to distribute it and possessing a firearm in furtherance of that drug trafficking crime.

Darrell Maxwell pleaded guilty to the charges on December 14, 2015. He was arrested on June 10, 2015, after arriving at a gas station in Palatka to sell Molly. Members of the Tri-County Drug Task Force were aware of Maxwell's plans and subsequently arrested him. During a search, a loaded .40 caliber pistol was recovered from Maxwell's pants.

This case was investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Frank Talbot as part of the 'Project Safe Neighborhoods' Program, a nationwide, gun-violence reduction strategy. United States Attorney A. Lee Bentley, III, and Regina Lombardo, Special Agent in Charge, ATF, are coordinating the Project Safe Neighborhoods effort in the Middle District of Florida.

Maxwell's sentence is a result of his guilty plea to the charges. He was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for possessing Molly with the intent to distribute it and for possessing a firearm in furtherance of that crime.

The 'Project Safe Neighborhoods' Program aims to reduce gun violence in communities by working with federal, state, and local law enforcement officials.

Darrell Maxwell, the defendant, is currently serving his 10-year sentence in federal prison for his crimes.
