Convicted Felon Sentenced to Prison for Possession of a Firearm

Jackson, Miss – In a shocking turn of events, a convicted felon has been sentenced to prison for possession of a firearm, announced U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis.

On July 24, 2014, Darren K. Smith, 33, was sentenced to 23 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The crime occurred on the tribal lands of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. Smith had been convicted of business burglary on November 6, 2000 in the Circuit Court of Neshoba County, Mississippi.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives and the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Lemon.
