Published June 22, 2015

A brutal domestic assault has left a Pine Ridge man behind bars. On January 14, 2013, Chief U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken handed down a 10-year sentence to Daryl Lee Goings, 46, for Domestic Assault by a Habitual Offender.

According to court records, Goings was convicted of causing substantial injury to a female during a domestic assault at Pine Ridge on September 3 or 4, 2011. He has a history of violence, with at least two prior convictions for Aggravated Assault and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.

Goings was initially indicted on February 22, 2012, for Kidnapping and Domestic Assault by a Habitual Offender. However, he pleaded guilty to the latter charge on September 27, 2012.

The investigation into the assault was a joint effort between the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety.

As a result of his sentence, Goings will serve 10 years in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release. He has also been ordered to pay $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund.

Immediately following the sentencing, Goings was turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.

The case serves as a grim reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
