David Henry, 31, Sentenced for Theft of Mail in Covington, Louisiana

A Covington man has been sentenced to three years probation and a $250 fine for his role in stealing mail from a local post office.

David Henry, 31, pleaded guilty to the crime in April 2014, admitting to taking three cards with cash and cash from the mail on three or four other occasions.

The investigation into the theft began after multiple complaints were made about missing mail from the highway contract route No. 76 in Mandeville.

The Office of Inspector General for the United States Postal Service, along with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, launched an investigation into the matter.

U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite praised the work of the agencies involved in the investigation.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba led the prosecution in the case.

U.S. District Court Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle handed down the sentence in the case.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of postal security and the consequences of stealing mail.
