David Houston Vargas, Armed Robbery, Colorado 2022

A federal jury delivered a guilty verdict against 30-year-old David Houston Vargas for his involvement in a pair of armed robberies committed using a firearm.

The defendant, who was also found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm, faces over 20 years in prison when he is sentenced on September 16, 2022.

According to evidence presented during the four-day trial, Vargas committed two armed robberies on November 14, 2020.

The events escalated on the evening of the robberies when Vargas engaged in a car chase with an Adams County Sheriff's Deputy.

Vargas was later identified and arrested.

The Honorable Judge R. Brooke Jackson presided over the trial, which concluded on June 3, 2022.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Lakewood Police Department, the Westminster Police Department, and the Adams County Sheriff's Office collaborated on the investigation.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Celeste Rangel, Melissa Hindman, and Elizabeth Young led the prosecution.
